Tips And Tricks For Packing And Moving

Nov 16, 2021

The process of moving is not an easy one and if you don’t take the time to prepare, you will feel overwhelmed. If you are planning on moving, the following tips will make the process smooth and stress-free:

DECLUTTER

This should be your first step because it will help you get rid of items you don’t need. We all have items we no longer use and if that’s the case, there’s no point bringing them with you to your new home. Cutting back on clutter will make a big difference because you will have a lot less things to pack and you will be able to enjoy a fresh new space.

PACK AS EARLY ON AS POSSIBLE

Packing in advance will eliminate stress because you won’t have to deal with panic and chaos. Doing this at the last minute is never a good idea, so pack as far in advance as possible so that you are ready to go when the moving day arrives.

BOOK A MOVING COMPANY IN ADVANCE

If you want to hire movers, renting supplies or professional packers, you need to book their services early so that you get the dates you’re after. Moving companies do get busy during certain seasons, so if you don’t book on time, you may not be able to get a truck or you may have to pay higher prices, which is something you can avoid.

DON’T FORGET TO SCHEDULE UTILITIES FOR YOUR NEW HOME

Once you are aware of all the dates, contact utility providers to ensure you have service at your new home whenever you arrive. The last thing you want to deal with is no electricity or heat, so schedule this ahead of time and request service stops for your current home on the date that you move out.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ACCESS TO THE ESSENTIALS

Everyday essentials should be kept separate so that you have access to these items. A change of clothes, your toothbrush, medications, important paperwork and toys for your kids are all examples of everyday essentials you should keep with you so that you don’t have to search through boxes.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE NECESSARY MATERIALS TO PACK

This includes cardboard boxes, tape and specialty items like bubble wrap. Have these items by your side and use the right size boxes so that your items do not get damaged. Heavier items should be packed in smaller boxes, whereas lighter items like pillows and sheets can be placed in larger boxes. Tape them up securely and always place heavier boxes at the bottom with lighter items on top to prevent anything from breaking. As you pack, label the boxes so that they can be placed in the right room once you arrive at your new home.
